Signature Theatre operates year-round and often has full and part-time internships each semester (fall, spring, and summer) in the following departments:
- Artistic Administration/Casting
- Arts Education
- Public Relations and Marketing
- Production Management each
- Costume Design (per show basis)
Interns should be qualified college students or recent college graduates who are actively pursuing careers in theater. Interns are treated as a vital part of Signature’s staff and gain valuable real-life work experience with a professional, award-winning, nationally-recognized theater. Positions are unpaid and housing is not provided.

ARTS EDUCATION INTERNSHIP

Gain valuable, hands-on arts administration experience at one of the region’s leading theaters with a paid, full-time summer internship!
ACTIVITIES/BENEFITS:
- Play a leading role in the planning, administration and implementation of Signature Theatre’s Overtures Musical Theater Institute, an intense two-week professional training program.
- Assist Signature’s Education Director with preparing schedules and educational materials for Signature in the Schools,Signature’s award-winning arts education partnership with area public high schools.
- Assist in developing Signature’s 2008-2009 Community Outreach programming, including The Signature School curriculum.
- Receive a complimentary pair of tickets to Signature’s mainstage shows.
- Attend a special social event with other ExxonMobil student interns in July 2008 (date TBD).
- Participate in special service projects with other ExxonMobil student interns (dates TBD)
- FINAL PROJECT: Develop Signature’s Education and Community Outreach pages to be promoted on Signature’s website
FELLOWSHIP CANDIDATES MUST:
- Have completed at least one year of undergraduate work with a “B” average or better and must be returning as a full time undergraduate student in Fall 2008.
- Fulfill an eight-week, full-time internship (35 hours per week) from June 2 to July 28
- Attend three mandatory meetings hosted by Volunteer Fairfax and ExxonMobil in June 2008 (exact dates TBD).
HIGHLY COMPETITIVE FELLOWSHIP CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:
- Knowledge of or experience in musical theater or the performing arts
- Excellent communication and writing skills and a proficiency in Microsoft Office or other word processing software.
- The ability to multi-task, work a flexible schedule, solve problems creatively and “self start” projects with a positive attitude.
COMPENSATION
A $2,500 stipend will be paid over the eight-week internship.

- Brief written answers to the following questions (3 page limit): 1) explain your interest in musical theater or the performing arts; 2) summarize your work experience to date and illustrate what strengths you would bring to this internship; 3) what do you expect to gain from this internship? What about the program specifically interests you?
